This series was inspired by a journey through Rajasthan in the autumn of 2009. Travelling by car across empty deserts to arrive at places dominated by a huge red fort or palace, with the dusty town spread round it, the buildings showed years of accumulated history of battling Mogul rulers, Hindus and Sikhs. In the paintings I try to capture the feelings evoked seeing these ancient places.
