Through their multiple layers of colour and line, the paintings are a metaphor for the complicated processes involved in thought and memory. Each painting builds a history showing the strata, in paint and line, of connections, crossings and re-crossings, divisions and separations, subsequent layers influenced or changed by traces beneath.
Some paintings show the inner landscape culled from memories of specific places visited in travels to China, Rajasthan and South India, Australia, Peru, America and Bali. They re-order the jumbled mosaic of recollections by putting down the defining connotations of a place and expressing the particular colours, shapes, mood and sensations experienced there. Paintings may be about a specific place but mediated through the artists' own selective process.
All the paintings are on oil canvas.
