The paintings try to emulate the complicated processes involved in thought and memory, by building richly stratified layers of colour, with lines crossing and re-crossing, making divisions and connections - layers being influenced or changed by traces underneath.
Some work shows the inner landscape made by impressions of specific places visited, searching for the defining connotations of a place and expressing the particular colours, shapes, mood and sensations experienced there.
Other work comes from visual images invoked when reading poetry such as T.S. Eliot’s ‘The Waste Land’, ‘Usk’ and ‘Prufrock’, the essence of the words seeking to find a metaphoric equivalent on the canvas within the components of form, colour and space.
Prices range from £300 to £1500.
